FAQ

What size are the pens?

This picture compares the various pens. The Gentlemans Pen is 5 3/4" long.

5 Pen Comparision

Explain the various metal plating used on the pens.

10K and 24K Gold - Beautiful Gold finish. Very soft. Will wear off with heavy use. Handle with a little care and it will last for years.

Gold Titanium - Looks just like 24K Gold but is very hard and will NOT wear off. Unconditionally guaranteed against wear. Not available on all models.

Platinum - Beautiful Silver colored finish. Very hard and will NOT wear off. Unconditionally guaranteed against wear. Not available on all models.

Of course the Gold Titanium and Platinum cost more.

Ink Resistance to Check Washing?

Check washing is the latest in big-time scams being pulled off by small-time crooks. Many pen inks today are very easy to remove from a check allowing the thief to rewrite the check to himself in any amount. The ink used in the Gentleman and Jr. Gentleman Roller Ball Pens may not be impervious to this crime, but they are very difficult to remove completely. They are wash resistant enough to be called Security Inks.

What is stabilized wood?

Stabilized woods are usually softer highly grained woods that have been pressure impregnated with a epoxy type resin. Some soft woods actually need processing in order to be turned and finished properly. Processing will transform these soft woods and make them hard and able to be highly polished. There are other woods that don’t need to be stabilized but the process brings out the color ( or adds new color) and/or figure of the wood. in either case, stabilized woods finish to a high luster, are impervious to moisture, and the wood will retain its beauty much longer.

Ball Point vs Roller ball ink?

Ball point pen ink is an oil-based ink in the form of a paste.  Lately, some brands are coming up with a new gel based ink that makes the ball pen behave more like a roller ball pen.  Roller ball ink is liquid and similar to fountain pen ink.  This is why ball point pen refills write longer than roller ball refills but are not as smooth.
